Call for proposals: Colloquium on AI, Digital Technologies, and Society

The University Bordeaux Montaigne, under the UNESCO Chair “Emerging Practices in Technologies and Communication for Development”, has launched a call for proposals for its upcoming colloquium “Thinking the Relationship to AI and Digital Technologies: Powers, Resistances, Innovations”, to be held in Bordeaux on 20–22 May 2026.

The event will bring together researchers, practitioners, and educators to reflect on how artificial intelligence and digital technologies are shaping societies today. From promises of innovation to risks of dependency and exclusion, the colloquium invites critical perspectives that confront global hierarchies while exploring spaces of reinvention and resistance.

Themes at a glance

Participants are encouraged to submit proposals addressing topics such as:

  • Governance, circulation of knowledge, and data sovereignty

  • Critical epistemologies and pedagogies of the digital

  • Frugal innovation and technodiversity

  • Digital activisms and resistances

  • Cultures, endogenous knowledge, and the anthropology of AI

Key dates

  • December 30, 2025 – Deadline for proposals (up to 3000 words)

  • January 20, 2026 – Notification of acceptance

  • May 20–22, 2026 – Colloquium in Bordeaux, France

A collective publication of selected papers is planned in the conference proceedings.
