Special roundtable will debate Media-Democracy Relations in Europe

Lusófona University will host a special roundtable and book presentation on October 8th featuring "Democracy and Media in Europe: A Discursive-Material Approach," the latest work by scholars Nico Carpentier and Jeffrey Wimmer.
The event, titled "Imagining New Relations for Media and Democracy: Beyond Defeatism," will take place from 11 am to 1 pm in the Professor José Araújo Auditorium. The panel will be chaired by Manuel José Damásio, with the authors discussing their work alongside CICANT researchers José Gomes Pinto, Maria José Brites, and Sara Pina.
The discussion will examine current democratic practices and media dynamics across Europe, challenging participants to move beyond pessimistic assessments toward constructive approaches for strengthening both media and democratic systems. The conversation will blend academic insights with local perspectives, engaging the audience in critical dialogue about the future of media-democracy relations.
This event forms part of the MeDeMAP project's broader European series examining media-democracy relationships and coincides with CICANT's 20th anniversary celebrations.
Registration for the event is free but mandatory (limited to room capacity) and can be done here.
