Vienna, Austria — 9–10 October 2025
Researchers from Lusófona University / CICANT and the FilmEU alliance took part in the Screening the Scene: Rethinking European Film Competitiveness conference, held in Vienna and organised by Reboot, a Horizon Europe-funded project dedicated to exploring new strategies for enhancing the competitiveness and sustainability of the European film industry.
Representing Lusófona and FilmEU, André Rui Graça presented the paper “Reconceptualising Competitiveness: Navigating Industry Sustainability, Audience Diversity and Cultural Inclusion in European Cinema”, co-authored with Manuel José Damásio and Rita Grácio. The work builds on research developed within the Horizon Europe project CresCine, coordinated by Lusófona, which examines how European cinema can adapt to digital, cultural, and social transformations.
In another contribution, Tatiana Chervyakova, Marta Vaz de Sousa, and Manuel José Damásio presented “Changing how, not what: Role of digital innovations for the competitiveness of film producers coming from small European markets”. Their paper explored how emerging digital tools and production practices can strengthen smaller film markets, fostering innovation and sustainability across the sector.
Both presentations reflect CICANT’s and Lusófona’s active engagement in European collaborative research aimed at rethinking the future of the film industry through innovation, inclusion, and cross-sectoral dialogue.
