Over the past month, STORYline shared key findings from its fieldwork at three major academic conferences, presenting insights on intergenerational citizenship, digital narratives, and media ethics.
On 2 July, Ana Filipa Oliveira took part in the 5th Congress of the National and European Networks in Cultural Studies (RNEC), where she presented "Individual and collective narratives of senior people in Portugal: experiences and life stories told in the first person in participatory workshops." Drawing on STORYline's fieldwork, the paper explored the common ground between seniors' memories and experiences, while highlighting the transformative potential of participatory workshops as a research and engagement method.
On 30 June, she also took part in the 10th International Conference on Media Ethics, where she presented "Media representations, digital narratives and citizenship: Preliminary findings from participatory workshops with young Communication students." The paper examined how digital narratives can foster more inclusive media representations, while underscoring the ethical and civic responsibility that communication students hold in shaping socially responsible narratives.
On 7 July, the project was represented at the 19th IBERCOM Congress, where researchers presented "Intergenerational Citizenship: Civic experiences based on workshops with young people and older people." Based on a thematic analysis of workshop discussions and the narratives produced during these sessions, the paper's findings show that citizenship is built through interaction between generations—linking life experience with digital skills. The research also highlighted how digital platforms present both opportunities and challenges for civic participation across age groups.
Together, these presentations reflect STORYline's ongoing commitment to sharing its participatory research findings with the wider academic community, contributing to conversations on intergenerational dialogue, digital citizenship, and ethical media practices.
