CICANT's MeLCi and AISIC Labs co-organise the VI MeLCi Lab Autumn School 2026 from 10 to 13 November 2026 in an online format. The initiative will bring together researchers, doctoral students, and academics to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming communication and media research while encouraging critical reflection on its societal implications.
Recent advances in AI, particularly Large Language Models (LLMs), are reshaping research practices by supporting tasks such as literature reviews, data annotation, audience segmentation, and discourse analysis (Natale, 2021). While these technologies offer greater efficiency and new research opportunities, they also raise important methodological and ethical challenges related to transparency, bias, and AI-generated knowledge (Ferrara, 2024).
The Autumn School will address these opportunities and challenges through an interdisciplinary approach, combining practical applications of AI with discussions on algorithmic mediation, datafication, and the ethical, social, and political implications of AI in contemporary media environments.
By fostering methodological innovation alongside critical AI literacy, the programme aims to equip participants with the skills needed to responsibly integrate AI into communication and media research.
