The Stereo & Immersive Media conference - 11-12 and 18-19 June

The Stereo & Immersive Media conference, organised by Lusófona University, is back in an exclusively online edition, and to be held on the weekends of 11-12 and 18-19 June.

This conference is dedicated to immersive technologies, current and old: from stereoscopic photography and 3D cinema to virtual reality. In order to explore these themes, the conference will feature well-known international speakers, such as Tom Gunning (University of Chicago), Denis Pellerin (Brian May Archive of Stereoscopy), Elizabeth Edwards (De Monfort University) and Carlos Teixidor (Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute), as well as guest speakers from European archives and museums, and papers by international researchers distributed across 26 thematic sessions.

S&I Media 2021 will also feature several parallel events, such as a 3D cinema shorts festival and the online stereoscopy exhibition "Jorge Marçal da Silva - The Immersive Dimension", a presentation by the photographer in partnership with the Arquivo Municipal de Lisboa - Fotográfico, and curated by Sofia Castro and Vitor Gens. This exhibition, as well as the conference, uses the red/blue anaglyph system so that the images can be seen in 3D.

One of the featured events will be the launch of the catalogue raisonée of stereoscopic photography of Carlos Relvas (on the 18 of june), the most renowned Portuguese photographer of the 19th century. The catalogue is based on research covering ten public and private collections of Relvas' stereoscopic photography which were, for the first time, digitalised, catalogued and associated with their respective negatives. At its closing (19th), the conference will also include a stereoscopic photography auction and an exciting 2D-3D cine-concert by director Edgar Pêra entitled Stravaganza, which will consist of a live 3D film edition and broadcast.
