CICANT researchers attended the conference "Navigating Algorithmic Society: Audiences' Tactics to Understanding the World," organised by the Audience and Reception Studies section of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA). The conference, held October 30-31 in Stockholm, Sweden, brought together researchers from across Europe to promote debates and develop a comprehensive understanding of challenges related to the rapidly transforming algorithmic society for media users throughout the continent.

Maria José Brites - who serves as vice-chair of the section-, Teresa Sofia Castro, and Margarida Maneta presented "Young people and algorithms: Profiling learning contexts and diversity concerns," examining how youth engage with algorithmic systems in educational settings. Sofia Caldeira, in collaboration with Hatice Çağlar from Çukurova University, presented "Training the Algorithm: Ambivalences in everyday engagements with feminisms on Instagram Stories," exploring tensions in feminist digital practices.
Teresa Sofia Castro co-authored with Maria José Brites and Margarida Maneta the paper "Youth perceptions of data commodification, imaginaries, and cultural meanings of Algorithms," investigating how young people understand and conceptualise algorithmic data practices. Additionally, researcher Fábio Ribeiro presented "For real or just an illusion (of inclusion)? Observing worldwide experiences of audience participation in journalism".
