Prominent Philosophers to Discuss AI Ethics and Moral Realism at Lusófona University - CUL

Universidade Lusófona will host a philosophical dialogue between two of today's most influential thinkers on November 26, 2025. Professor Markus Gabriel from the University of Bonn, Germany, and Professor Yasuo Deguchi, co-president of the Kyoto Institute of Philosophy, will explore the role of philosophy in shaping desirable human futures in the age of artificial intelligence.

The event, titled "Moral New Realism and the 'WE Turn' in the Era of AI and Technological Megatrends," will take place from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM in auditorium Q.2.4 at Lusófona University - Lisbon University Centre.

The dialogue draws inspiration from the philosophers' forthcoming book on "What Philosophy Can Do for the Society of the Future: New Moral Realism and the Turn to 'We,'" scheduled for release in Japanese this month.

Yasuo Deguchi, a leading expert in Western and Asian analytical philosophy, has recently proposed the innovative "We-Turn" framework, which reconceptualises AI systems as parts of social relationships rather than soulless autonomous machines. Markus Gabriel advocates co-creating conditions for moral innovation alongside AI systems, viewing them as "magic mirrors" that shape the future of human society from within.

The event, organised by CICANT researchers Alexander Gerner and José Gomes Pinto, is open to the public and will be conducted in English.
