The study “Engage for SDG”, led by Edson Capoano (ESPM/CECS) and Pedro Rodrigues Costa, researcher at CICANT/ Lusófona University, has been selected by the COP30 Action Agenda to join the “Global Initiative for Climate Information Integrity”. The research examines how young people engage with news about climate change, with a particular focus on the moral dimensions that shape their participation and information consumption.
The proposal was chosen from a pool of international submissions for its significant contribution to promoting accurate, transparent, and accessible information on climate issues, supporting a healthier, more plural, and democratic public debate.
The selected actions will be presented during the COP30 Solutions Hub, which will take place in Belém do Pará, Brazil, in November 2025. The event will bring together experts, organizations, and policymakers to address misinformation and strengthen public trust in climate science.
According to the official communication released by the Secretariat for Digital Policies of SECOM – Presidency of the Republic of Brazil, “Engage for SDG” stands as “an example of leadership and commitment to concrete solutions that reinforce the quality and reliability of climate communication”. For the authors, this recognition highlights the role of scientific research and public dialogue in building a more informed and responsible global movement around climate change.
By receiving this distinction, Edson Capoano and Pedro Rodrigues Costa reinforce the presence of CICANT/Lusophone research within the global agenda for sustainability and climate information integrity, supporting international efforts toward a more transparent and sustainable future.
