LabCLIP launches “Peer Conversations” series with a session on the emergence of criticism in African literatures in Portuguese

On 15 December at 6:30 p.m., the LabCLIP – CICANT Laboratory for the Studies of the Intercultural Portuguese-Speaking Community - will launch Peer Conversations, a new series designed to foster dialogue among researchers working on themes related to Portuguese-speaking cultures.

The first session, held in collaboration with the PhD Programme in Communication and Activism, will focus on “Social Reflection in the Emergence of Criticism in African Literatures in Portuguese”. The event will feature Professor Ubiratã Roberto Bueno de Souza from the University of São Paulo (USP) as guest speaker.

The session will take place at CICANT – Room, 1st Floor, at Lusófona University – Porto University Centre, and will also be available online via the link accessible through the event’s QR code (on the event poster).

About the speaker

Ubiratã Roberto Bueno de Souza is a Professor of African Literatures in Portuguese at the University of São Paulo. He holds a PhD (2019) and an MA (2014) in African Literatures in Portuguese, as well as a BA in Portuguese Language and Literature (2012), all from the Faculty of Philosophy, Languages and Human Sciences at the University of São Paulo (USP).

In 2017, he completed a doctoral research internship in Maputo, Mozambique, supported by the CAPES Sandwich PhD Programme. His research focuses on literary criticism and its intersections with social history and historical sociology, with particular attention to African studies, the African diaspora in Brazil, and African literatures in Portuguese.

He is the author of Entre armas e palavras: literatura e guerra civil em Moçambique (EdUFABC, 2017), and has published several book chapters and peer-reviewed articles.
