The European University FilmEU has launched an international call for submissions to its 2026 Artistic Research Exhibition (ARE), inviting postgraduate researchers to engage with contemporary instability through audiovisual and media-based works.
Under the theme "Unstable Grounds: Artistic Research Lines of Flight," the exhibition will explore how artists and researchers navigate environments shaped by artificial intelligence, political extremism, ecological crisis, economic volatility, and increased surveillance. Drawing inspiration from Deleuze and Guattari's concept of the line of flight, ARE 2026 seeks works that carve pathways through rigid systems and generate new forms of knowledge and expression.
The call is open to postgraduate researchers of any nationality affiliated with academic institutions worldwide. Each submission requires an abstract of up to 350 words, optional images, and a link to a CV. Works should address how art can illuminate instability, enact critique, cultivate resilience, or imagine alternative futures during uncertain times.
The full call is available here.
The submission deadline is February 2, 2026, with acceptance notifications on February 15, 2026. The exhibition will launch online in April 2026 and run through April 2027. A selection committee comprising representatives from FilmEU's partner institutions in Estonia, Bulgaria, Portugal, Lithuania, Belgium, Ireland, Denmark, and Slovakia will review submissions.
