Portuguese newspaper Público reported on research revealing that European audiences assess "risk" before watching films from their own countries, with 40% of Europe lacking adequate data on cinema.
The newspaper Público published an article covering the second edition of the CresCine study, presented at the 10th Portuguese Film Encounters in Lisbon. The research identifies a "systemic gap" affecting small European film markets and finds that audiences assess perceived "risk" before choosing local films. Portuguese cinema professionals reported experiencing market "insularity" and noted that national financing "prioritises the track record [of the applicant] rather than the story" each project aims to tell.
The CresCine project (101094988 — CresCine — HORIZON-CL2-2022-HERITAGE-01), coordinated by CICANT, focuses on enhancing the competitiveness of small film markets, which represent the majority in the European Union.
