MeDeMAP's essay AGON receives its first academic review in Media Studies

The Croatian academic journal Media Studies published an academic review of MeDeMAP's essay AGON: Constructions of Democracy. The piece is authored by Martin Bubanović.

The review, published in the journal’s 2026 volume, examines the film essay created by Ali Minanto, Nico Carpentier and Jhon Sany Purwanto within the framework of the MeDeMAP project. AGON explores the contested nature of democracy through audiovisual storytelling, bringing together theoretical reflection, fiction, dance, imagery, and sound. It is the first time the film essay has been reviewed in an academic journal, extending AGON's academic validation beyond its screenings and presentations.

This is part of MeDeMAP’s broader commitment to recognising multimodal and non-written forms of academic publication. By bringing audiovisual work into established academic spaces, AGON contributes to ongoing discussions about how research can be produced, communicated and evaluated beyond the traditional written article.
