New IJFMA issue explores the cognitive and embodied dimensions of cinema

The International Journal of Film and Media Arts (IJFMA), edited by CICANT, has published Volume 10, Issue 2 (2025), titled Cinematic Minds Behind the Screens. This new issue brings together contributions from philosophy, psychology, artistic research, cognitive film studies, and film practice.

Focusing on cinema as a dynamic, embodied, and affective process, the issue moves beyond the notion of film as a finished product, instead highlighting the interplay between filmmakers’ creative practices and audiences’ perceptual and imaginative engagement.

Edited by Pia Tikka, Elen Lotman, and Maarten Coëgnarts, the issue features a diverse set of articles addressing topics such as embodied montage, empathy in cinema, participatory authorship, film education, sound, and collaborative creative processes. The issue reinforces IJFMA’s commitment to interdisciplinary research at the intersection of film, media, and cognition.
