ImHerit Joins the European Time Machine Ecosystem

Filmeu’s ImHerit — Centre of Excellence on Immersive Media Heritage has joined the Time Machine Organisation with a new Local Time Machine entitled Mapping Cosmoramas. Time Machine is a European initiative that aims to build a large-scale, distributed digital infrastructure for collecting, organising, and analysing the “Big Data of the Past”.

Mapping Cosmoramas draws on archival research conducted in the FCT-funded research project Curiositas, and documents the circulation of cosmoramas, 19th-century optical exhibitions, across Europe and the Americas between 1818 and 1889. This new “Cosmorama Time Machine” incorporates georeferenced data for 54 distinct sites where cosmoramas were exhibited. Additionally, it provides access to a more comprehensive data visualisation, available on the Curiositas project website.

Time Machine currently brings together more than 140 projects, making it one of the largest digital cultural heritage ecosystems in Europe.
