The International Journal of Film and Media Arts (IJFMA) has published Volume 10, No. 1, a special issue titled Valleys Deep, Mountains High – The Peaks and Troughs of Animation Practice.
This special issue brings together a selection of peer-reviewed articles originating from the CILECT Asia-Pacific (CAPA) conference Valleys Deep, Mountains High, hosted by Griffith Film School. The conference focused on research through practice, exploring both the creative challenges and opportunities of contemporary animation production across diverse contexts.
Reflecting the increasingly multifaceted nature of animation, the contributions address topics such as new technologies and hybrid forms, animation under adversity, identity and animation, pre-production processes, and animation as an interdisciplinary practice, with particular attention to production in the Asia-Pacific region.
The special issue is edited by Manuel José Damásio (CICANT), with Anna Coutinho as Editor Manager, and includes contributions that examine animation as a critical, pedagogical, and experimental field. The issue reinforces IJFMA’s commitment to practice-based research and to advancing scholarly dialogue at the intersection of animation, media, and creative technologies.
