Researchers from Lusófona University and CICANT were strongly represented at the XIV Congresso da Associação Portuguesa de Ciências da Comunicação (SOPCOM 2026) [Congress of the Portuguese Association of Communication Sciences], held between 9–11 February 2026 at Universidade da Beira Interior in Covilhã under the theme Comunicação e Tempo. The national congress is the main forum for researchers in the field of Communication Sciences in Portugal.
Members of the CICANT/ Lusófona University research community presented original work across several sessions, highlighting their contributions to contemporary communication science.
This wide range of presentations reflects CICANT’s diverse research strengths in topics such as digital culture, journalism, media temporalities, and critical media practices — and underscores their active participation in national scholarly discourse.
In addition to presenting their ongoing work, CICANT researchers were also chosen to coordinate various associations' working groups, namely:
- COMMUNICATION AND EDUCATION - Coordinator: Ana Filipa Oliveira (Lusófona University)
- INTERCULTURAL COMMUNICATION - Deputy Coordinator: Carla Cerqueira (Lusófona University)
- JOURNALISM AND SOCIETY - Coordinator: Alexandra Figueira (Lusófona University).
Participation at SOPCOM 2026 highlighted not only individual research excellence but also the collaborative engagement of the CICANT community with the broader field of communication sciences in Portugal.
