Researchers are invited to submit contributions to the conference “Communicating narratives, imaginaries and epistemes of hope”, which will take place on 7 September 2026 at the Institute of Communication Studies and Journalism, Charles University, in Prague, Czech Republic. The event is a joint conference of the International Association for Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) Communication, Social Justice and Democracy Working Group and a pre-conference of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) 2026, taking place one day before the main ECREA conference in Brno.
The conference seeks to foster critical reflection and dialogue on how communication practices, media representations, and cultural narratives articulate and negotiate visions of democracy, peace, justice, and social transformation.
Submissions may address a wide range of themes, including:

narratives of hope in the context of societal crises such as climate change, migration, conflict, and extremism;

how institutions, media actors, and social groups negotiate visions of hope in mediated environments;

communicative practices that articulate struggles for peace, justice, and dignity;

the role of history, space, time, and technology in shaping imaginaries of hope;
-
communication under conditions of authoritarianism, conflict, or restrictions on freedoms.
