CICANT participates in the III cycle “Entre Culturas: Artes, Artistas e Intelectuais entre Portugal e África”

On 14 March 2026, CICANT took part in the III cycle “Entre Culturas: Artes, Artistas e Intelectuais entre Portugal e África”, with the session “Ecologias da Memória e Resistência em Yara Costa”, held at Livraria do Gato Vadio.

The session featured Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues, who guided a discussion on the work of Mozambican artist Yara Costa. The presentation explored the artist’s ecologies of memory — understood as living, sensory, and embodied spaces where memory becomes a form of resistance and a means of reclaiming ancestral knowledge.

Through the intersection of performance, orality, archives, and territory, the session examined artistic practices that not only preserve memories but also activate them. These practices contribute to representing communities from a decolonial perspective, returning forms of knowledge, care, and agency to those communities.

Based on Ilha de Moçambique, Yara Costa’s work proposes a counter-archive grounded in her own positionality as a Mozambican artist. Her artistic practice can be understood as a continuous gesture of reparation, resistance, and the imagination of alternative futures.

The event was organised by LabCLIP / CICANT, in collaboration with the Lusófona PhD in Communication and Activisms programme.
