On October 22, 2022, Carla Cerqueira, principal investigator of the research project FEMglocal - Glocal feminist movements: interactions and contradictions, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021), attended the 9th European Communication Conference (ECC - ECREA 2022) with the paper “The news coverage of the 8M feminist strike in Portugal”, coauthored by Célia Taborda (Co-PI of FEMglocal). In a panel on “Gender and News Representation”, Carla Cerqueira discussed the emergence of the 8M Feminist Strike as a transnational contemporary feminist movement that aims at re-politicising the International Women’s Day. She further expanded on the 8M Strike expression in Portugal and its repercussions in the national public sphere through the content analysis of the newspapers Expresso and Público between 2018 and 2022.
