CICANT co-hosts the Post-Conference on Connected Generations: Media, Communication, and Intergenerational Exchange in Contemporary Lives

Lusófona University, through its Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture and New Technologies (CICANT), is co-hosting the Post-Conference on Connected Generations: Media, Communication and Intergenerational Exchange in Contemporary Lives. The online event will take place on 17 and 18 September, starting at 9 am (WEST – UTC+1 / CEST – UTC+2). Registration is free but mandatory, and its deadline is 12 September 2026.
The Post-Conference is jointly organised by the Children, Youth and Media Section and the Temporary Working Group on Ageing and Communication, with logistical support from the CNSC research group. While counting on the support of CICANT's STORYline project (Shaping Youth Citizenship Through Intergenerational Approaches and Digital Narratives, 10.54499/2023.11571.PEX), this event will also benefit from the support of the Open University of Catalonia (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya).
Building on the theme of ECREA 2026's conference, 'Shifting Grounds: Paths, Connections, and Futures', this event will explore how mediated environments create new pathways for intergenerational exchange, addressing persistent barriers and challenges in the process. The event will bring together scholars, practitioners, and stakeholders to create a space for comprehensive dialogue focusing on children, young people, and ageing populations. This will allow critical questions to emerge about digital divides, knowledge transfer, shared media practices, and the evolution of family and community communication patterns.
This post-conference includes an open call for papers, addressing themes aligned with the conference scope. These themes include intergenerational approaches in research and intervention, educational practices in formal and non-formal contexts, the use of social media across different age groups, digital literacy initiatives, communication technologies between grandparents and grandchildren, media practices within multigenerational households, age-diverse online communities, and methodological approaches to intergenerational research. Critical perspectives are emphasised, including analyses of ageism within digital platforms, generational stereotypes in media representations, and policies aimed at fostering intergenerational digital inclusion. The deadline for abstract submission is 15 May 2026.
