FEMglocal at the VIII International Congress on Cultures: Cultures of Resistance
Between December 5th and 7th 2022, the FEMglocal project was present at the VIII International Congress on Cultures: Cultures of Resistance at the University of Minho, in Braga. December 6, Carla Cerqueira (PI of the FEMglocal research project) moderated a panel on Culture, Networks and Feminist Movements where the paper “Feminist movement as a means of resistance against the hegemonic culture: between the networks and the streets” (written by Célia Taborda - Co-PI of the project -, Carla Cerqueira and Ana Sofia Pereira - FEMglocal’s Post-Doc Fellow) was presented, discussing the power of transnational actions, online and on the streets, to rescue themes and voices that have been silenced by paternalistic cultures. On the same day, Camila Lamartine (researcher of the FEMglocal project) presented the paper “‘No one can resist the feminist fight’: Cyberfeminism and Intersectionality in the 8M Movement in Portugal” (cowritten by herself and Carla Cerqueira) in a panel on Citizenship, Participation and Activism. In her presentation, Camila Lamartine explored how intersectionality is embedded in fourth-wave feminist movements through the use of digital social networks, namely in the making of the International Women’s Strike in Portugal in 2021.
