2nd Symposium "Fashion Education and ITV"
The 2nd Symposium "Ensino da Moda e a ITV - Formação de Talentos para a Fileira da Moda" [Fashion Education and ITV - Training Talent for the Fashion Sector] will take place on 20th January in Portimão.
The 2nd Symposium intends to reinforce the concept of a space for reflection where Academia and the Textile and Clothing Industries discuss higher education in Fashion Design, the skills of graduates, the needs of employers, and the professional profiles that the market seeks, in a society in deep change.
About the event
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated trends that were already being noticed, namely a new consumer profile, digitalization, sustainability and circularity, the discussion on the reindustrialization of Europe, and nearshoring. Fashion companies, textile and clothing industries, and brands are adapting to this new environment to ensure competitiveness and move up the value chain.
Aware of this reality, EURATEX - The European Apparel and Textile Confederation in late 2021 elaborated the "Pact for Skills for the TCLF Industries". The Pact for Skills is part of the European Union's industrial strategy, addressing the competitiveness of 14 critical ecosystems, including textiles and clothing. The main objective of the Pact is to maximize the impact of investments in improving existing skills (upskilling) and training new skills (reskilling).
The Textile and Clothing Industry (ITV) is one of the most important for the Portuguese economy. It represents 10% of total exports (5,000 M€); 9% of the turnover and production of the manufacturing industry (6,500 M€); 20% of manufacturing employment (135,000 jobs). The weight of ITV employment in relation to the total population is 3.5 times greater in Portugal than in Italy. About 6,000 companies are covering all ITV sub-sectors, some vertical, although the majority are SMEs, mostly located in Northern Portugal.
Given this scenario, it is imperative that companies, institutions, professionals, and universities together reflect and discuss, on the one hand, the profiles and appropriate skills and, on the other, the attractiveness and retention of talent by companies, developing the best solutions for higher education for professions in the fashion industry. The Symposium "Fashion Education and ITV - Training Talent for the Fashion Sector" aims to contribute to this reflection and discussion.
Professors and researchers, industrialists and entrepreneurs, graduates, and professionals working in the labor market will meet in this space.
Topics associated with the academy and the industry will be debated:
- Marketing and Fashion Brands
- Interior Textiles
- Corporate Clothing
- Sustainability and local economy
Transversal themes - Teaching, Research, Skills
The event is organized by Fashion_Lusophone - ULusophone - ISMAT.
