Ana Jorge, researcher at CICANT, is one of the organizers of the conference Key themes in digital disconnection research: Authenticity, wellness, datafication and power. The conference is organized in the scope of the International Communication Association's (ICA) annaul conference and will take place on May 25 at the University of Toronto.
The conference will delve into the topic of authenticity in disconnection studies, as authenticity emerges as both a negative and positive motive: Citizens log off to avoid inauthentic social media and hope to achieve a more authentic life by engaging in offline activities.
The event builds on the success of the disconnection studies preconference held in Paris in 2022, and aims to expand collaboration, expand the range of topics and perspectives and stimulate networking and career development among junior and senior academics.
