FEMglocal researcher at INN2023 - I International Conference on Media Innovation

Camila Lamartine, researcher from the project FEMglocal - Glocal Feminist Movements: Interactions and Contradictions (financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology, FCT, through national funds - PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021) presented a collaborative paper with Carla Cerqueira (FEMglocal’s PI) titled “Inovar no feminismo: ciberfeminismo e hibridismo na construção da Greve Feminista Internacional” [“Innovating in feminism: cyberfeminism and hybridity in the construction of the International Women’s Strike”] on February 1s at INN2023 – I International Conference on Media Innovation.

The paper was part of a panel on Creative and Social Innovations and aimed to explore the construction of an intersectional feminism through digital activism, specifically in the context of the Women’s Strike, as well as the importance of hybridity for online feminist movements. The presentation focused on the year 2021, the first time that 8M was held simultaneously online and in person due to the pandemic situation. Combining netnography and semi-structured interviews with activists who are members of Rede 8 de Março, a collective that has been organizing protests in the country since its inception, the paper analyzed Instagram posts throughout the month of March to gain insights into the “place of speech” of those who are part of the movement.
