Open Class "Exploring hegemonic femininity on TikTok through representation analysis and reception studies"
The open class "Exploring hegemonic femininity on TikTok through representation analysis and reception studies" will be held on 17 May at 17.30, in Room U0.8 (Lisbon University Center). The session will be conducted by visiting PhD researcher Maria Castellví Lloveras.
Maria Castellví's PhD thesis explores how hegemonic femininity is deployed on TikTok, using two combined perspectives: on one side, the analysis of the representation of the most popular Spanish tiktokers to identify the predominant topics, narratives and imaginaries that define their online identities. And on the other, how young girls receive, reproduce, appropriate, and make sense of this content in their own uses and practices. In this session, Maria will share the process of designing and implementing the thesis methodology: from the ethical considerations and struggles, the data management and analysis and self-reflections about my position as an early career researcher and the relationship with the participants.
