Talks at the University - a collaboration between PORTO FEMME and FEMglocal

PORTO FEMME International Film Festival and the research project FEMglocal - Glocal Feminist Movements: Interactions and Contradictions (financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds - PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021) have once again joined forces in the 6th Edition of the film festival in 2023. From April 19th to 21st, the Lusófona University - Porto University Center hosted “Talks at the University”, a partnership between Porto Femme, FEMglocal, and Lusófona University. The event was prompted by film screenings that address pressing contemporary issues such as feminist movements, transgender individuals, and oppression and violence against women. Leading the conversations were members from the FEMglocal team, including Vanessa Ribeiro Rodrigues, Célia Taborda (Co-PI), Ana Sofia Pereira (postdoctoral fellow), Carla Cerqueira (PI), and Priscilla Domingos (PhD fellow). They were also joined by Nuno Carneiro, Simão Freitas, and Joana Cabral, as well as film directors, producers, and performers from the pictures being screened. PORTO FEMME aims to highlight, showcase, and promote the work of artists and filmmakers who identify as women and/or non-binary people. Within that context, “Talks at the University” provided a platform for engaging discussions on important topics and issues in contemporary society, creating a space for critical reflection and dialogue.
