Two new articles published under the FEMglocal project
FEMglocal's researchers have published two new articles.
The paper “Entre Ciberfeminismo e Artivismo: Feminismo em Portugal no Dia Internacional Para a Eliminação da Violência Contra as Mulheres” (Between Cyberfeminism and Artivism: Feminism in Portugal on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women), written by Carla Cerqueira (PI of the FEMglocal research project) and Camila Lamartine (FEMglocal’s researcher), was published May 30th on the academic journal Vista (scientific journal of visual culture and digital arts).
This article, developed within the scope of the FEMglocal - Glocal Feminist Movements: Interactions and Contradictions research project (financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds - PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021), explores the relationship between cyberfeminism and feminist artivism, with a particular focus on how cyberfeminists used artivism to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in Portugal in 2021.
Through content analysis of Instagram posts made by Portuguese feminist associations and collectives on November 25th, identifying online and offline interventions, it became clear that cyberfeminism enhances the articulation and connection between these spaces (online and offline) in a permanent way. On the other hand, artivism is seen and used as a strategic and political tool to disseminate and promote cyberfeminism within the current Portuguese feminist movements.
The article is available on open access in Revista Vista's website.
The article titled “#MeToo em Portugal: uma análise temática do movimento através de artigos de opinião” (#MeToo in Portugal: a thematic analysis of the movement through opinion articles), authored by Carla Cerqueira (PI of the FEMglocal research project), Célia Taborda (Co-PI of the project), and Ana Sofia Pereira (FEMglocal's post-doctoral fellow), was published on May 31st in the scientific journal Cuadernos.info.
This article, developed within the scope of the FEMglocal - Glocal Feminist Movements: Interactions and Contradictions research project (financed by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds - PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021), delves into an examination of the #MeToo movement in Portugal, focusing on its portrayal and discussion in opinion pieces published in the newspapers Expresso and Público from 2017 to 2022.
