Call for Book Chapters: Methodological Approaches to Media, Communication, and Creative Industries
In an era defined by the interplay between media production and the evolving nature of citizenship, the need for robust methodological approaches to understanding these dynamics has never been more critical. This call seeks to advance research in media and communication studies by prioritizing methodological innovation and interdisciplinary rigor, while being a space to disseminate the work of early career scholars
In this context, CICANT’s Early Career Scholar’s group invite contributions that explore the intersection of media, technology, and society through diverse methodological lenses, emphasizing the specificities of research designs, and analytical tools that address the contemporary media landscapes.
Proposals for short book chapters that engage with methodological approaches in the following areas (non-exhaustive list) are welcomed:
- Methodological Innovations in Digital Media and Art Research
- Technological Impact Assessments in Creative Industries
- User Experience (UX) Research and Interactive Media
- Artificial Intelligence and Related Methodologies
- Virtual and Augmented Reality: Research Design and Evaluation
- Quantitative and Qualitative Approaches to New Business Models of Creative Economies
- Digital Preservation and Cultural Heritage
- Intellectual Property, Legal Aspects, and Empirical Methodologies

This collection of short chapters aims to provide a platform for early-career scholars, including master’s and doctoral students, as well as researchers in the early stages of their careers, to showcase methodological disruptions, advancements and contribute to the growing body of knowledge in media and communication studies.
Submission Guidelines
- Abstracts of 350 words outlining the methodological focus, research questions, and theoretical framework.
- Submissions should emphasize the methodological approach and its contribution to the field.
Deadline for abstract submission: 25.07.25
Notification of acceptance: 04.09.25
Deadline for full chapter submission: 04.11.25

Norms for the Full Chapters
As mentioned, these chapters intend to be short and user-friendly formats for scientific dissemination of innovative methodologies in CICANT’s broad field (between 3000 and 3500 words).
Overall, the instructions for authors are, as follow:
- The chapters can be conceptual notes, theoretical essays, design processes, among others within the topic, to be discussed with the editors (empirical studies are not mandatory);
- They should have a short chapter structure, between 3000 and 3500 words (excluding references);
- References must be APA style (7th Edition), both in-text and in the list of references;
- Inclusive language must be adopted (this is a possible source);
- The authors must send a 100 word short bio to be published in the ebook, alongside the chapter.
