Joana Isabel Martinho Bicacro

Joana Bicacro has a PhD in Communication Sciences from ULusófona, with a thesis focusing on visual culture and media theory, the virtual turn and mediated spaces and communities. She is a researcher at CICANT whose main interests are technological cultures and visual media. She is a member of the Early Visual Media Lab at CICANT. Vice-chair of ECREA Philosophy of Communication section from 2018 to 2024. She is a Professor at Lusófona University, Portugal. She teaches Visual Culture, Media Archaeology and Methods in Image Analysis as undergraduate courses at the School of Communication, Arts and Information Technologies (ECATI, ULHT), both in the Communication and Film and Media Arts departments. She has presented and published papers on new media, film and photography, creativity and media arts education, haptics, aesthetics, visual culture and image technologies. She also worked as a research assistant and manager in several Erasmus+, Creative Europe and FCT projects at CICANT.
