GameIN project (2022.07939.PTDC) organized LeiriaTalks, on the scope of the largest board game convention in Portugal - LeiriaCon, to promote a space for reflection on the broad social role of board games. The conference had two keynote speakers, Michael James Heron (Chalmers University of Technology/University of Gothenburg) and Ricardo Simões (IPCA), that spoke, respectively, about board game accessibility, and the role of 3D printing in the future of the field.
Two teams of popular game designers – Markus & Inka Brand (Village) and Isra & Shei (Red Cathedral; Walkie Talkie) – were also invited for a roundtable on the relevance of co-design processes, moderated by Carla Sousa and Micael Sousa.
Several talks were then presented, which allowed rethinking the role of board games in contemporary society, in a face-to-face and online way, aiming at their sustainability, diversity, pedagogical potential, among other factors.
