The 2023 edition of the International Association of Media and Communication Research (IAMCR) ended yesterday, having marked the return of the conference to a face-to-face format since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Between 9 and 13 July, the city of Lyon welcomed researchers from around the globe to present papers and discuss this year's theme: "Inhabiting the planet: Challenges for media, communication and beyond". Several CICANT researchers participated in the conference.
Ana Filipa Oliveira, researcher of the YouNDigital project, presented a work developed in co-authorship with Margarida (Lusófona University / CICANT) and Inês Amaral (University of Coimbra/ Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Sociedade (Minho)), entitled "YouNDigital: Exploring the complementarity of traditional and digital participatory methods to study young audiences, news and digital citizenship". The researcher also participated in a special panel of the Audience section where she presented the paper "Youth news audiences Portugal: Approaches, trends and needs", co-authored with (Maria José Brites Lusófona University / CICANT) and Marisa Torres da Silva (NOVA FCSH / Instituto de Comunicação da NOVA (ICNOVA)). This session was prepared in partnership with Sopcom's Publics and Audiences Working Group.
Researcher Sofia Caldeira was present with two papers: "Exploring the imaginaries of feminist activism on Instagram" and "Situating #MeToo: A comparative analysis of the movement in Portugal and Catalonia". This last work was produced in co-authorship with the researcher Marta Roqueta-Fernàndez (Universitat Oberta de Catalunya), who was a visiting researcher at Lusófona University between September and December 2022.
Anastasiya Maksymchuk, PhD student of Lusófona University (Media Art department), presented the audiovisual project "The Moments When We Freeze: Working with Family Archive through Reenactment" at FLOW 34, a special stream for innovative audio/visual contributions.
Furthermore, collaborator Alexandra Figueira co-authored the paper Media ownership transparency in Portugal: challenges and limitations, presented by with Elsa Costa e Silva (University of Minho/ Centro de Estudos de Comunicação e Sociedade).

As in previous years, the IAMCR conference has also taken on an online format. On the OCP23 platform IAMCR makes available a diverse set of papers produced within the scope of the various thematic sections. Several CICANT researchers are also participating in this format of the conference:

These papers covered a diverse range of topics, including opinion discourses about the #MeToo movement, the transnational aspects of #MeToo in Portugal, tensions and re-mobilizations on Twitter, communication strategies for the feminist strike, the representation of activism in news coverage on feminism in Portuguese media, and media education approaches to interpersonal and love relationships in adolescence.
The papers will be available for reading, comment and discussion among IAMCR members until 12 September 6th the OCP23 platform.
